Betty J. Gibbens, 78, Brazil, died Sunday at Holly Hills Healthcare Facility, Brazil. She was born in Vigo County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Cornwell) Tabor. She attended Brazil High School and was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church, a Stanley Home Products distributor, a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was the past president of the VFW Post 1127 Ladies Auxiliary...

Cloverdale Community School Corp. board member Todd Whitlock isn't happy with the corporation's website. And according to Whitlock, neither are several residents in the town. On Monday, Whitlock expressed concern to school officials regarding the website, specifically pointing to Harmony, a component on the website intended to keep track of students' information...

Antique and historic home lovers are invited to tour Rising Hall from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The 1870 home sits on the Putnam/Hendricks county line on U.S. 40. Known nationwide from Bob Villa's "Restore America," the home is named for its five staircases. Construction crews could start moving dirt at one of Greencastle's industrial properties before the end of the year if city officials approve the contract specifying the work. Members of the Green-castle Redevelopment Commission will meet Wednesday to discuss the proposal, by Garmong Construction of Terre Haute, to construct a speculative (spec) building on property located on the west side of Fillmore Road near Lear Corporation...

A Putnam County man survived a cardiac event this past weekend during the Putnam County Airport Appreciation Days thanks to the quick actions of emergency services. An 85-year-old male collapsed and was in cardiac arrest. Bystanders performed immediate CPR. A Greencastle Fire Department crew in the area quickly grabbed their automated external defibrillator. The AED was used and the crew was able to get the patient back with a pulse and breathing -- even talking with the crew...

The South Putnam School Board met Wednesday during a special meeting to hear public comment about the proposed 2007 budget. But with no public available for comment, the board moved on to an insurance presentation put on by Vincennes Insurance. Vincennes Insurance, who represents Anaheim Medical Insurance in Southern Indiana and several schools and hospitals, had provided the teachers with information about changes in health benefits package earlier that afternoon...
