Putnam County Fair Queen contestant applications are now being accepted and are due by Tuesday, May 29. This year's queen contest will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 14 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Contestants will appear in professional wear and an evening gown. Each contestant will also participant in a personal interview with the judges prior to the contest...

Putnam County residents who live on gravel roads can choose between calcium chloride treatment and oil treatment to control the dust in front of their homes. The county highway department will be splitting the cost of the 300-feet treatments by paying $125 of the total cost of $250 for calcium chloride, or $135 of the total cost of $270 for oil treatment. A Greencastle man was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday on U.S. 231 north of Cloverdale. Joseph Allen Bumgardner, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy Gregg Slover reported that Bumgardner was the only occupant of a southbound Ford 150 pickup truck that went off the road just north of County Road 700 South.
