INDIANAPOLIS -- When Kevin Harvick passed Tony Stewart on a lap 140 restart, it looked like it could be the race. The story seems to be the same every year at the All State 400 at the Brickyard -- if a car gets the lead, it tends to keep it. But the Columbus, Ind., native had other plans for Harvick. Ten laps later, he took some of Harvick's paint before taking the lead. It was a lead he would hold, as he claimed his second win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway...

Putnam County residents are being warned by local health officials to check their pantries for food products named in a massive recall due to possible botulism contamination. The Putnam County Health Department is also warning local merchants to check their shelves and remove those items listed in the recall announced July 19 of Castleberry's Food Co., which is owned by Bubble Bee Foods...

Putnam County has been deemed non-complaint by state officials who have threatened to withhold state funds and the 2008 budget orders, and to not approve budgets or bond orders for local government agencies. The Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) notified the Putnam County Commissioner in a July 20 letter that it requires an immediate hearing to address the county's non-compliance with data submission statues and regulations...

Robert Hayes Lyon, 57, died July 3 in Chicago from complications with leukemia. Born in Greencastle, he was the son of Keith Houk and Joanne Lyon. His wife Donna survives. A 1968 graduate of Greencastle High School, he earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University and an MBA from Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania...

Larry E. Maurer, 65, Center Point, died Monday at his residence. Born in Clay County, he was the son of Cecil Maurer and Della Gertrude Mong Maurer. He married Phyllis Stevenson Maurer on Feb. 13, 1960, and she survives. He attended Ashboro High School until it closed in 1959. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1960. He worked from the age of 14 in farming, first at the Dietz property and then later for his wife's family...

Mary Lou Brown, 76, Houston, Texas and formerly of Cloverdale and Greencastle, died Friday. Born in Fillmore, she was the daughter of Ralph and Cecil Bassett. Survivors include her son, Steve Brown and wife Janet, Terre Haute; daughter Judy McKenzie and husband Michael, Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Murphy, Greencastle; one brother, Duane Bassett, Carmel; and several nieces and nephews...
