Unforeseen problems with the city's water line rehabilitation project near downtown have forced Greencastle officials to cut the project short. The original plan called for the city's century-old water main running from the water plant north of town to the Putnam County Courthouse downtown to be relined. But unexpected twists and turns in the underground line have delayed the project by weeks...

The Cloverdale Civic League is sponsoring a major fundraiser for the Cloverdale Community Park next weekend. The Oct. 20 events, which include a run/walk and a motorcycle ride, are part of the Civic League's two-year campaign to raise $70,000 for a three-phase park renovation, said League President Angela Ladd...

The Putnam County Office of the Purdue Extension Service and Putnam County Hospital will be offering the Fall 2007 series of Dining with Diabetes Cooking Classes on four consecutive Mondays starting Oct. 22. Lucy M. Tucker, 92, Greencastle, died Sunday. Inurnment will be in Shelbyville. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Ruth Omadene Decker, 94, died Friday at her brother's residence in Muncie following an extended illness. Born in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Henry J. and Effie "Marie" Murphy Smith, and attended Greencastle Schools. She moved to Muncie in 1935 and was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company during World War II, and at Ball Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Halteman Village Baptist Church...

George W. Minkler, 88, Greencastle, died Saturday. Born in Coxsakie, N.Y., he was the son of Lester and Pearl (Harris) Minkler. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he earned a battle star in France and Germany. He was a graduate of Cornwall on the Hudson High School and Purdue University. He was a charter member of Poland Volunteer Fire Dept., serves as a trustee and moderator at Big Walnut Baptist Church, and retired from farming after 40 years...

Putnam County Jail Three people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently. Greencastle Fire Dept. Greencastle firefighters handled one run during the weekend. At 11:39 p.m. Friday, firefighters went to Round Barn Manor Apartments to assist with a faulty water heater. They returned to station at 12:19 a.m...

If all goes according to plan, Hope Haven Horse Farm will turn the frightening prospect of $9-per-bale hay into something even more scary -- and maybe make a little extra money in the process.
