Santa Claus is coming to Alex Alleys on Saturday, Dec. 22 to help raise money for the local Giving Tree program. Taking time out of his busy scheduled this time of year to help raise money for this program, Santa is even bringing Mrs. Claus at some of his elves along for the delight of little ones...

Chihuahua, Mexico -- Senior cornerback Jevon Pruitt helped the United States to a 37-19 win over Mexico in the annual Aztec Bowl. Joining Pruitt on the USA squad was former DePauw head coach Nick Mourouzis, who served as an assistant for the third straight year...

On Saturday the Greencastle wrestling team competed in the Zionsville Tourney. Jacob Wright finished the day with a 3-1 record in the 189-weight division to place third. Jesse Vermillion was 2-2 at 145, which was good enough for fourth place. Kyle Buchanan, at 215, and Andy Harrison, at heavyweight placed fifth with records of 2-2 on the day...

The Greencastle boys' basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 60-42 win over Sullivan. Drew Evens, coming off a 22 points night against Cloverdale, threw in 18 against the Golden Arrows. Brennan Burks added 15 in the Tiger Cubs win. Greencastle will host Crawfordsville at 7 p.m. Tuesday...

VEEDERSBURG -- The South Putnam boys' and girls' swim teams competed against Fountain Central Saturday. The boys' squads scored its first victory of the season with a 112-60 win, while the girls' fell 98-77. "This was a very good victory for the boys,"?head coach Joe Condon said...

One week earlier, the Cougars' two leading scorers, Zach Hedrick and Cory Dean, were injured in an automobile accident on icy roads while traveling to North Putnam High School to catch the team bus for the Putnam County Classic finals...

Russell J. Compton, 98, Greencastle, died Saturday at his residence. Born in Miami County, he was the son of Willis and Effie (Overman) Compton. He was a 1931 graduate of Manchester College, received his bachelor of divinity degree from Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, Ill., in 1935 and his doctorate from Yale University in 1939. He attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and Marburg University in Germany. He was an ordained United Methodist minister...
