Water and sewer bill issues caused tempers to flare among residents attending the Fillmore Town Council meeting Thursday night. The tiny burg is still beleaguered by issues with their water and sewer systems as town council members Jeff Osborn, Wes Terhune and Allen Jones struggle to get accounting issues cleaned up enough to put a new plan in action...

The Putnam County Museum will hold its 7th Annual Meeting and Gala on Aug. 2. The event will be at the DePauw University Union Building Ballroom. "The Gala is always a special event and gives museum supporters an opportunity to share in the success of the past year and look forward to the promise of the coming year," said board member Sally Gray. The Indiana State Library launched a new collaborative Web site called Indiana Memory created to make Indiana historical and cultural information available via Internet. The Web site (www.indianamemory.IN.gov) provides access to primary sources from libraries, archives, museums and other institutions across the state. Digitized books, manuscripts, photographs, newspapers and maps are available as sources for learning about Indiana history and culture...

A local Putnam County man was in the fight for his life, a battle he almost lost at one point, but now he can see greener pastures on the horizon. On Feb. 27, J.R. Frazier, a rural Cloverdale resident, went to the doctor because he had a persistent dry cough and unexplained bruising...

Narcissus James, 71, of Greencastle died on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Mrs. James was born on Nov. 17, 1936 in Russell Springs, Ky. to Arlis and Lucy Norman Gosser. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Greencastle. Surviving are her husband, Roy; children, Sandy Oty and husband, Terry of Greencastle, Phil James of Spencer, Tina Rainbolt of Fillmore, Cheryl Murphy of Indianapolis, Tanya Hughes and husband, Eric of Churubusco, Isis Bryant of Indianapolis and Shawn James of Greencastle; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.. ...

Norman E. Evens, 81, of Bainbridge died Saturday July 5, 2008 at Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette. Mr. Evens was born on Oct. 3, 1926 in Putnam County to Ray Amos and Wilma Lucille Irwin Evens. He married Thursa Etcheson on April 6, 1948, and she survives...

Marvin D. Stanley, 84, of Cloverdale died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at home. Mr. Stanley was born Oct. 23, 1926 in Camby to Dallas Elwood and Edna Francis (Fulton) Stanley. He married Brenda Jones on Nov. 28, 1988, and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2007...
