The Cloverdale volleyball team emerged from a recent skid Tuesday night, defeating Eminence 25-20. 25-22, 25-18. "We really needed a win tonight," Clover coach Kathy Moore said. "Eminence is a much improved team this year and they just kept fighting to dig every ball. I thought we had some great moments tonight at the net and we served the ball well."...

ROACHDALE -- In the seventh grade football game Monday, the South Putnam Eagles defeated the North Putnam Cougars 8-0 to improve to 6-1. The leading rusher and tackler for South Putnam Sawyer Arnold was knocked out of the game after the first play, but the seventh grade squad came together and played what their coach called "one of their best team games thus far this season."...

The Greencastle seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams were in action against Clay City Monday night. The seventh grade A squad lost 25-24 and 25-9, while the B team fell to the Eels 25-10 and 25-16. The Tiger Cub eighth graders also lost to Clay City 25-10 and 25-19...

DePauw senior middle hitter Adrienne Cobb has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played from September 29 through October 5. Cobb helped guide the Tigers to a perfect 4-0 mark in the SCAC East/Central Crossover and a 17-6 overall record. She posted a .355 hitting percentage and averaged 3.1 kills per set. She also totaled 20 blocks for a 1.4 average...

The IHSAA announced the pairings for the 2008 football sectional Tuesday night and some familiar foes will be facing off in the first round on Oct. 24. In the 3A No. 21 sectional, Greencastle will host the Mounties of Southmont. Southmont and Greencastle face only one common opponent during the season, that being North Putnam. Greencastle fell to the Cougars 35-0, while Southmont was dismantled by North Putnam, losing 61-7...

It was wet. It was chilly. But if you're a Greencastle fan, you left Tuesday's Putnam County Cross Country meet with a warm feeling. In both the girls' and boys' races, the Tiger Cubs had five All-County runners and came away with the team title. Muncie, Ind. -- Earl C. Davis, 87, of Muncie, Indiana died peacefully Monday morning, October 6, 2008, at Westminster Village. He was born October 30, 1920, in Putnam County, Indiana, son of the late Moses E. and Mattie (Ferrand) Davis. He graduated from Bainbridge High School, Coombs Bible College, Butler University, and Christian Theological Seminary where he ultimately earned his doctorate in pastoral care and counseling...

A Greencastle man was given a two-and-a-half year sentence in Putnam County Circuit Court Monday in connection with the theft of personal checks. Stephen J. Bridges, 26, was originally charged with nine counts of Class C felony forgery and one count of Class D felony theft. Fourth grade students at Roachdale Elementary recently learned the proper procedure for folding the United States flag and got to sample one of Putnam County's favorite foods--the Legion burger. Class instructors Jonathan Shannon and Julie Black contacted the American Legion Post 58 in Greencastle and asked the group to demonstrate to their students the proper procedure for flag folding. Fourth graders are responsible for raising and lowering the flag everyday at the school...
