Excellent weather welcomed track athletes who converged on South Putnam for the 2009 county track meet Tuesday. Greencastle had a big night and won both meets. In the boys' meet, Greencastlegirls placed first with 104 points, followed by North Putnam with 80, Cloverdale with 37 and South Putnam with 22. The Greencastle doubled up South Putnam to get the win. GHS scored 108 points, while the Eagles tallied 54, Cloverdale finished with 45 and North Putnam ended the night with 30...

When Chris Jones was asked what was the difference between his Lady Eagles barly beating Greencastle, 2-1, Monday and beating them 11-0 Tuesday? He had only on thing to say -- momentum. "We carried it over from the seventh inning last night through the five innings, tonight," Jones said. "Last night we didn't start playing until the seventh inning where tonight (Tuesday) we came ready to play the whole game."...

After a slow first couple of innings, Monday's matchup between South Putnam and Greencastle quickly turned into a slugfest. The Eagles scored multiple runs in the final two innings to defeat GHS 14-3 in five innings. The teams entered the fourth inning tied 1-all, but that's where the Eagles took flight. MONROVIA -- The North Putnam High School baseball team defeated Monrovia 12-1 Tuesday. Tyler Watson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Brock Jones had a home run. Scott Hunt went 1-for-4 with a home run. Reece Herron earned the win, allowing one run on threehits while fanning four...

The North Putnam High School softball team blanked the Monrovia Bulldogs Monday night, 3-0. Dakota Malayer had three hits while Leh Crosby had two RBIs and Carlye McGaughey had one RBI.

The Cloverdale High School softball team defeated Eminence 8-4 Monday night. The Clovers played a well rounded defesive game and collected eight hits on the night.

The Greencastle High School golf team lost its first match of the season Monday afternoon, dropping a 166-160 heartbreaker to Northview. Luke Crimmins led the Tiger Cubs, carding a 37, while Jimmy Wheeler and Wade Huber had a 42 each. Rounding out Greencastle score card was Brad Haussin, who shot a 45 for the day...

CLAY CITY -- The Cloverdale High School golf team came up short Tuesday afternoon against Clay City, losing 169-166. Mike Wellington led the Clovers with a 38, while Chris Arnold followed closely behind with a 39 and Gary Williams turned in a 44. Ryan Bock shot a 48 for the Clovers 'final score...

Margaret E. Booe, 73, of Greencastle, formerly of Putnamville, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Asbury Towers in Greencastle. She was born on Dec. 29, 1935 in Clay City, the daughter of Russell and Floy Lenora Oberholtzer Funk. She was married to Lloyd W. Booe on Jan. 2, 1955 and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2001...

Lela Gooch, 87, of La Vernia, Texas, formerly of Roachdale, died at Country Care Manor in La Vernia Monday May 11, 2009. Mrs. Gooch was born on Jan. 30, 1922 in Science Hill, Ky. to William Green and Bertha D. Bishop Waddle. She married William Gooch on Oct. 21, 1941 at Somerset, KY. He preceded her in death...

Putnam County Sheriff's Department Emily Cobble, Brazil, was traveling east on US 36 at 9:22 p.m. Sunday when a deer entered the roadway. Cobble was unable to avoid hitting the animal. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages. Ruth Floyd, Brazil, was traveling west on US 40 at 9:09 p.m. Sunday when two deer entered the roadway. Floyd attempted to avoid the animals, but was unable. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages...

CLOVERDALE -- Cloverdale Middle School principal Jeff Brookshire has resigned from his position. During the regular school board meeting Monday night, board members voted 6 to 1 for all personnel changes including Brookshire's resignation. In March, it was confirmed by Superintendent Carrie Milner Brookshire had been placed on administrative leave. Milner declined to give the Banner Graphic any more details on the situation other than it was "not related to any criminal allegations."...

In recognition of National Police Week, which runs from May 10 to 16, Greencastle Police Chief Tom Sutherlin brought his department's six reserve officers before the city council at Tuesday's regular meeting. Sutherlin introduced Jerrett Query, Heath Smiley, Kyle Lee, Kyle Gibbons, Clyde Siddons and Jim Amis, who have served the department for anywhere from four months to 12 years...

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Town Council meeting began a little differently Tuesday evening. Before delving into business, the council held a moment of silence in memory of one of its own.
