Michael Lee Wilson Sr., 61, of Cloverdale died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 1, 1948 in Indianapolis, son of Donald and Violet Morgan Wilson. Mr. Wilson enjoyed playing basketball growing up and was a meat cutter the majority of his working career. ...

GREENCASTLE -- Less than a month after his sentencing, a Poland man who received a five-year prison sentence with three years executed has petitioned the court for a modification of his sentence. "I am willing to do all of the remainder of my executed sentence on home detention so I am able to start college in the spring," Bobby Forey wrote in his petition. "I can provide my college paperwork."...

GREENCASTLE -- In 1938, two log cabins, one restored and one reconstructed were moved from their original sites to a place where they could be used for education purposes. The Washburn Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Pioneer Cabin project was responsible for the preservation of the two structures. ...

Firefighters battle a fire in an outbuilding at 3164 N. CR 450W Wednesday. Crews were dispatched to the scene just before 11:30 a.m. It was reported a space heater caused the fire. A dog and several puppies perished in the blaze. No injuries were reported. Responding to the scene were Greencastle Fire Department, Van Bibber Volunteer Fire Department, Roachdale Fire Department and Putnam County Operation Life.

This year's film season could be described as one of the weakest in recent memory. Like most every year, the true heavyweights waited until December to unleash themselves on the box office and strut their feathers for those lovely people voting for the golden statues...

GREENCASTLE -- Former Putnam County Sheriff Mark T. Frisbie will be in federal court Jan. 22. Frisbie, 39, is accused of violating the terms of his federal probation. A hearing on the alleged violation will take place in the United States District Court in Indianapolis...

Dorothy A. "Grandma" (Schroeder) Neeley, 93, of Greencastle passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Asbury Towers in Greencastle. Dorothy was born Oct. 19, 1916 in Terre Haute,the daughter of Elmer and Edna (Strong) Schroeder. She did general office work for insurance companies and H & R Block in Indianapolis. She was a graduate of Ben Davis High School class of 1934...

My first full year as a music critic has been a good one. And the year has offered its share of outstanding new music. From a longtime performer like Steve Earle to 19-year-old Haley Dreis (who occupies a different musical universe than Earle), I've heard my share of new stuff this year.
