GREENCASTLE -- A two-vehicle accident left Veteran's Memorial Highway closed for about six hours Wednesday as authorities cleaned up the wreckage. Donald Lundy, 43, of Beaver, Ohio was eastbound on Veteran's Memorial (State Road 240) in a 2010 International semi, when he collided with the 2000 Toyota Rav 4 driven by Rachelle Overbay, 19, of Roachdale.

South Putnam will be hosting youth camps for girls' tennis, basketball and volleyball beginning Monday. The camp will run Monday through Thursday at Central Elementary and South Putnam High School. Each camp will be filled with drills, instruction and games for all girls who were in grades 3-7 during this past school year...

JASPER -- For some, it might turn into old hat, but for Jasper head baseball coach and 1979 Greencastle grad Terry Gobert, it's still exciting. Saturday, Gobert and his Jasper team will be going for his and the school's sixth state title at Victory Field at 4 p.m...

To call the Gaslight Anthem's "American Slang," released Tuesday on SideOneDummy Records, a surprise would be incorrect. This isn't a quality album that seemingly came from nowhere. The band caught the attention of fans and critics alike with 2008's "The '59 Sound," one of the strongest albums of recent years. The album's mix of punk energy, soulful lyrics and all-around quality rock 'n' roll made it good when it was released and for years to come...

Putnam County Community Foundation board member Susan Price, second from right, presents a donation for the Mary Allison Children's Fund to Jim Jackson, president; Joe Ferguson, vice president; Ginger Scott, treasurer; and board member Mike Goss. Arliss Adele Spencer, 89, of Rockville died on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton. She was a retired school teacher. She was born Nov. 20, 1920 in Chadwick, Ill. to the late Ralph Clarence Anderson and Florence Naniga Anderson. Her husband of 48 years, Meryl Eugene Spencer, whom she married May 28, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa, preceded her in death June 17, 1987...

Mrs. Dorothy J. Harvey, 87, a longtime resident of Greencastle, and previously from Portage and Gary, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. She was born in Lowell, the daughter of George and Maude Keithley. She is survived by her children Betty Willis, Jeanne McGill (Gary), William Evans (Louise) and Jackie Mimms; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers John Keithley (Mary Jo), Richard Keithley (Hazel) and David Keithley; sisters Shirley Peterson and Alice Pfaff; and many other loving family and dear friends.. ...

GREENCASTLE -- Stu Fabe, Brad Hayes and Todd Lewis were elected to the Putnam County Community Foundation board of directors during the 25th annual foundation meeting Wednesday night. Their three-year term will begin Jan. 1, 2011. "We welcome these distinguished community leaders to our board and look forward to having their talents and wisdom on hand," said Denise Sigworth, president of the community foundation. ...

GREENCASTLE -- Attendees to the Putnam County Community Foundation's 25th annual meeting learned how everyone in the community wins because of the organization and the gifts from its donors, but there were some special winners as well. Sally Gray received the Spirit of Philanthropy award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the board members of the community foundation and recognizes outstanding philanthropic achievement within the Putnam County community...

GREENCASTLE -- A tractor-trailer overturned on a smaller vehicle was a shocking sight this morning. However, for officials with the city and local schools, an accident at the intersection of Veteran's Memorial Highway and Percy Julian Drive is hardly surprising...
