Morello, Riley still ragin' and rappin'
(Entertainment ~ 08/12/10)
Supergroups are generally anything but super. Sure, it sounds exciting to hear that Eddie Vedder and Eddie Van Halen are working together (I made that up, by the way.), but the results end up more like Eddie Money. So the news last year that guitar virtuoso Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, The Nightwatchman) had united with rapper Boots Reilly (The Coup) wasn't really exciting to me...

All is 'Wright' with Scott Pilgrim's world
(Entertainment ~ 08/12/10)
From the retro gaming Universal logo until the credits roll, Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" is perhaps the most fun you'll have at the movies this year. The movie won't appeal to all people, but for those it was intended to target, it will be a hit. It's one of those movies you find yourself quoting and thinking about days after the viewing and a movie you'll find yourself wanting more of...

Culture is abound in our little corner of the world
(Column ~ 08/12/10)
As a person who loves the arts and wants them to always thrive, I have to say I am more than a little impressed with what Putnam County has to offer. Theater is my true passion, so I usually think of the Putnam County Playhouse first. The first production I saw there was "Singin' in the Rain" in 2008, and I was blown away by the professional quality of every aspect of the show -- the acting, singing, dancing, lighting, sound, costumes -- everything...

Hog wrestling event disturbing to couple
(Letter to the Editor ~ 08/12/10)
To the Editor: The picture on the front page of the Aug. 2 Banner Graphic, "Squealing, mud-slinging fun," is disturbing. The hog-wrestling event may have been fun for the girls, but it surely was not fun for the pig. In fact, it is animal cruelty. 4-H is supposed to represent the best in the care of animals. This kind of activity sets a bad example in the care of other animals, especially to younger persons...

Community Portal aims to seek connections
(Local News ~ 08/12/10)
GREENCASTLE -- A one-stop shop for local residents on all things DePauw-related. That was the goal for a group of DePauw students who spent the better part of an academic semester exploring the connections between Greencastle and DePauw. "A major source of confusion seemed to be where to go for information about events and services that were available and open to the public on the DePauw campus, particularly for those with no direct connection to the University," Brendan Belz said, a 2010 DePauw graduate and one of the students who worked on the project.. ...
