GREENCASTLE -- Putnam County in now under a level 1 weather emergency. A level one emergency restricts travel to emergency personnel only. Putnam County emergnency management director Kim Hyten confirmed the level 1 warning remained in effect as of 7:30 Wednesday morning.

Ruth Nina Stanger, 97, of Greencastle passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at the Mill Pond Health campus. Born Nov. 4, 1913 in Russellville, she was the daughter of Walter Henderson and Mary Elizabeth (Blanton) Poynter and a graduate of Fillmore High School's class of 1930...

The IHSAA girls' basketball sectional pairings were announced Sunday, and Putnam County's teams will be in action at two different locations. In Class 3A, Greencastle's girls drew a first round bye in Sectional 29 at South Vermillion. The Lady Tiger Cubs entered this week with a 12-7 record. As of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the county is under a level three travel advisory. A level three watch is when routine travel or activities may be restricted in an area because of a hazardous situation. The public should use caution or avoid these areas. Schools and businesses may implement their emergency action plans...
