The Bell Union Youth Baseball and Softball leagues will have four chances for kids 4 years old and above to sign up to play this summer. The league will host sign-up sessions at Central Elementary School on Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 9 a.m.-noon each day...

PLAINFIELD -- A new venue greeted the Putnam County swimmers as North Putnam, South Putnam and Greencastle's girls' swim squads competed at the Plainfield sectional Thursday night. The Tiger Sharks advanced all three relays into the finals Saturday, with the 200 medley relay squad of Sarah Beams, Sydney Cassida, Rachel Custis and Rosio Gomez placing fifth, the highest finish of the day among the county swimmers...

The Russellville Community Center will host a soup and sandwich dinner at around noon on Sunday, Feb. 12. Guests are welcome to come early and wait in the gym. There will be several kinds of soup available, along with ham salad, chicken salad and grilled cheese sandwiches. The meal will be a free-will offering and drinks and desserts will be included...

On Feb. 1 at 11:28 a.m. Zachary Ryan Sondgeroth, 24, Oxford, was booked into the Putnam County Jail for theft. At 9:34 p.m. Cory Edward Smith, 26, Elwood, was arrested for probation violation. On Jan. 20 at 8:45 p.m. Shawna R. Mundy, 27, Indianapolis, was westbound on State Road 240 in a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta. She was traveling at a slow rate of speed due to slick road conditions when the car began to skid sideways...

The Putnam County Museum's fourth annual Student Art Show will open Saturday, Feb. 11, with a reception at 11 a.m. The exhibit will run through April 14. The exhibit features art from Putnam County students in grades K-12. The museum solicited every school in the county, as well as home schooled and private school students, for submissions of drawings, paintings, ceramics and more...

The Putnam County Hospital along with North and South Putnam FFA chapters held a food drive, 'Hope for a Super 2021', on Thursday, Jan. 26, which collected over 200 items. CLAY COUNTY -- After fleeing from deputies in a vehicle and then on foot, a Greencastle man was taken into custody Tuesday on various charges. Cora Lee Smith, 78, Greencastle, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 with her family by her side. She was born in Whitesburg, Ky. on Sept. 24, 1933. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Cynthia and her husband Rev. Grant Smith. Cora is survived by her children Glenna (Ed) Fite of Indianapolis, Patricia (Kevin) Burdette of Greencastle, Terry (Cheri) Smith of Greencastle and Douglas (Jana) Smith of Anchorage, Alaska. ...
