City Police One arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers Thursday evening. Keith Michael Rogers, 34, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jeff Modlin at 5:18 p.m. on Vine Street for violation of a protective order. Rogers was lodged in the Putnam County Jail...

When summer 2012 rolls around, it will cost more to cool off at the Greencastle City Pool. For only the third time since the city pool opened nearly 20 years ago, the cost of admission is going up. The Greencastle Park Board Thursday night unanimously voted to increase the daily pool admission price for everyone age five and older from $3 to $5...

The Edgewood Mustangs held off a tough West Vigo squad Friday at the IHSAA Class 3A No. 28 sectional semifinal, winning 59-46. The Mustangs will face Owen Valley in the final after the Patriots defeated the host Tiger Cubs 57-46. Edgewood enjoyed an early lead that grew from 19-10 after one quarter to 34-20 at halftime. The Mustangs were cruising, but that's when the Vikings decided they weren't ending their season without a fight...

Speedway will face hosts South Putnam in the IHSAA Sectional No. 44 final after dispatching Covenant Christian 63-58 Friday night. The Sparkplugs held a 21-19 lead after one quarter of play but let the lead slide away in the second period, allowing the Warriors to take a 37-31 lead into the break...

FRANKFORT -- Frankfort High School had their way with North Putnam in the semifinal of Sectional 25, defeating the Cougars 70-33 inside Case Arena. The Hot Dogs (10-13) began the game on a speedy 9-0 run led entirely by Christian Smith. His two superhoops from both elbows sandwiched the more difficult and-one three-point play, forcing the Cougars (7-14) to call a timeout...

After experiencing a thrilling win in its opening game of the 2011-12 sectional, Greencastle struggled to find a flow in its IHSAA Class 3A No. 28 sectional semifinal match-up against Owen Valley, which results in the host Tiger Cubs being bounced from the tournament 57-46...

The first semi-final game of the IHSAA sectional No. 44 pitted hosts South Putnam against Cascade. The Eagles had already been beaten twice by the Cadets; one by 24 at Cascade and by 13 at home in the Eagle Holiday Classic. South Putnam, however, was in no mood to lose a third time, using a 14-5 third quarter to help expand a three point halftime advantage en route to a 72-60 win Friday night...

In celebration of both Dr. Seuss' birthday along with Read Across America Day, the Putnam County Library held a celebration at the Inn at DePauw Social Center on Friday evening. The community was invited to play games, listen to beloved Dr. Seuss tales, color and enjoy birthday treats. As reports of devastating tornadoes in Southern Indiana and around the country continued to roll in Friday evening, Putnam County residents could look around and count themselves fortunate. Two severe storm outbreaks produced hail in parts of the county Friday morning and afternoon, but the Putnam County Emergency Management Agency Severe Weather Specialist had a word to describe Putnam County's situation...

At mid-day Friday, Greencastle got its first look at $4 gasoline this year as the Speedway station on Indianapolis Road was among the first to raise all its gasoline grades to $4 (or splitting hairs at $3.999 per gallon for unleaded regular) and others quickly followed suit. It might only be the beginning, as some analysts have predicted we'll see $5-a-gallon gasoline by the ending of the year...
