McCloud Nature Park is hosting a free program dedicated to the enticing Monarch butterfly on Saturday, Sept. 8 starting at 2 p.m. in the nature center. The Greencastle Middle School cross country team opened its season Thursday, with both squads performing well. The girls posted a perfect score of 15 with Emma Wilson leading the way with a time of 12:49 to claim first place. Second place went to Seelye Stoffregen in a time of 12:59, with Katie Haynes placing third in a time of 13:10. Gracie Smith was fourth in a time of 13:47 and Sydney Lewis was fifth in a time of 13:59...

ROACHDALE -- The Cloverdale seventh grade football team scored 15 unanswered second half points to defeat North Putnam 23-6. The score was 8-6 in favor of Cloverdale at the half. The Clovers put points on the board at the beginning of the third when Tyler Kaett scored on a 35-yard touchdown...

South Putnam will honor the 2012 IHSAA Class 2A State Softball champions Sept. 7 during halftime of the South Putnam and North Putnam football game. South Putnam hosted the Eagle Medley cross country race last Thursday, consisting of a 3K, 4K and 5K face on the same course at the same time. They score as a team, each team must have two runners at each distance. South Putnam was first in the girls' race with a score of 14. ...

TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle boys' cross country team raced at the State Preview at Terre Haute North Saturday. Instead of competing in the small school division, the Tiger Cubs opted to enter the big school division. Greencastle placed 15th out of 24 teams that held seven of the top 20 teams in the state during heavy rains...
