The Greencastle Fire Department will host its 12th annual open house Wednesday at the fire station at 107 S. Passing motorists saw an unusual sight on North Jackson Street Tuesday afternoon. Dozens of Model T and Model A Fords, along with other automobiles from the early 1900s, were on a 100-mile cruise and stopped at the Putnam Inn for lunch. The drivers of the antique cars were undeterred by the cool, damp day, traveling like the cars' original owners would have -- bundled up. The group gathers in Parke County each year shortly before the Covered Bridge Festival for several days of tours. Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently. At 4:35 a.m. Justin Keyt O'Hair, 21, Roachdale, was booked in for public intoxication, disorderly conduct and probation violation. At 10:50 p.m. Kyle Allan Turner, 22, Indianapolis, was arrested for operating while intoxicated...

The Putnam County boys' cross country meet had more than a little intrigue attached to it Tuesday night at South Putnam. Greencastle lost runner Elijah Brattain before the race due to illness and South Putnam capitalized on a strong back end to claim the boy's county title by three points, 29-32...

INDIANAPOLIS -- Greencastle resident Judy Miller has been granted the state's most prestigious award for volunteer service in appreciation of her work with the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry. The 2012 Governor's Service Awards have been bestowed upon Miller and seven other Hoosier individuals and organizations, including one of the state's leading automotive companies and a Marine veteran who has given 20,000 hours of community service over 40 years...

Charlie Boller is an Independent candidate for Putnam County Commissioner, First District, in the Nov. 6 general election. Boller was raised and currently resides in Bainbridge.
