The Greencastle boys' soccer team came out with energy and enthusiasm for Tuesday's game against Edgewood but the hosts couldn't parlay that into a win. The Tiger Cubs lost on senior night 2-0. It's time for Fire Prevention Week, and from Oct. 6-12 the Greencastle Fire Department is joining forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind local residents to "Prevent Kitchen Fires." During this year's fire safety campaign, firefighters and safety advocates will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires --most of which result from unattended cooking -- and teaching local residents how to prevent kitchen fires from starting in the first place...

The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced this year's Share the Dream program winner, Bainbridge High School Alumni Scholarship. In a special session held by Greencastle Community Schools, the school board heard prices and voted on updating technology in the schools. Margaret ("Peggy") Gardner, 100, died on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013. Born Jan. 6, 1913, in Marengo, Ill., to Callie and Clarence White, she and her family of seven moved to Los Angeles in 1919 Peggy graduated from Los Angeles City Schools and worked as a bookkeeper for several organizations, including the Oakland Shrine Organization...

Virginia L. Hutcheson, age 90, born in Putnam County on May 1, 1923, passed away on Sept. 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hutcheson. She is survived by a daughter, Linda and her husband Guy Vestal, Allen, Texas; a son, Gary and his wife Stacy Hutcheson, Carlsbad, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lisa Alvarez and husband Denny, Plano, Texas, Amy Nalls and husband Steven, Fort Collins, Colo., and Hayley Hutcheson, and five great-grandchildren, Brett, Luke, Chad, Ashley Alvarez and Quinn Nalls.. ...
