Twelve standouts have been named to the Banner Graphic 2016 All-Putnam County volleyball team, led by Greencastle junior Maggie Meyer — the county “Player of the Year.” Meyer had solid offensive statistics for the county champion Tiger Cubs this year with 46 aces, a 94.3 serving percentage, 15 kills and 12 assists...

The traditional 11th-hour, 11th-month, 11th-day Veterans Day program is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the Putnam County Courthouse in Greencastle. While the ceremony is normally conducted on the south side of the courthouse, there is ongoing construction in that area. No official word was available at presstime on whether or not the ceremony will be moved to another location at the courthouse...

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers. • At 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Ernest Brandenburg, 61, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Josh Smith at a Castlebury residence. Held on a charge of invasion of privacy, Brandenburg was lodged in the Putnam County Jail...

ROACHDALE -- The Roachdale VFW Post 3284 will be hosting a Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Friday, Nov. 11 from 5-7 p.m. The event is free for all veterans and their spouses. A free-will offering will be taken from any non-veteran in attendance who wishes to contribute...

Incumbent Donna Fidler went unopposed in her candidacy for the Cloverdale Township seat on the Cloverdale School Board and will re-take her seat with 1,314 votes. Two other seats, currently held by Chris Mann and Rob Schroer, were also open but no candidacy was filed. Mann and Schroer were absent from the October regular meeting...

In a landslide election Tuesday night, Hollie Hutcheson won the Marion Township seat for the South Putnam School Board. Hutcheson took every precinct by an average of 86 votes to gain a total of 1,585 (59.7 percent) votes over incumbent Steve Cash’s 1,072 (40.4 percent)...

Incumbent school board member Mark Hoke will maintain his position within the North Putnam School District after defeating his challenger by nearly 500 votes Tuesday. Defeating fellow at-large candidate William Buescher 2,027 to 1,569, Hoke said he is very grateful to his supporters for looking after his efforts these past four years...

The Republican grasp on the Putnam County electorate remained strong Tuesday evening. With Democrats contesting only two races at the county level, both garnered less than 35 percent of the county-wide vote. Incumbent Coroner Dave Brown bested Democrat challenger Wally Steele by more than 5,700 votes, 9,977-4243 (70 percent)...

ROCKVILLE — The South Putnam Eagle girls’ basketball team opened their season on Tuesday night at Rockville. The Eagles were to open last week against Clay City, but that game was postponed to December. The Lady Eagles certainly looked ready with a big first quarter (19-7), leading to a 44-42 victory...

Putnam County Highway Department will close Bridge 110, located in Madison Township on 525 West North of 50 North, on or after Monday, Nov. 14 for bridge replacement. County officials anticipate having it open by the end of the year.
