Betty Lou Arnold, 82, of Holly Springs, N.C., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016. Born May 10, 1934 in Lizton, Ind., she was the daughter of William Marvin and Nellie V. (Dearing) Jones. She was a 1952 graduate of Fillmore High School. Betty had worked at the IBM Credit Union and in the banking industry for several years...

Luke Lattner scored a game-high 27 and hit a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds remaining in regulation to lift DePauw to a 96-90 victory against Hiram in overtime on Sunday. Lattner sunk the 3-pointer after taking a couple dribbles and receiving the ball following an inbound pass from near the half court line. Thanks to its earlier start, the high school girls’ basketball season is more than half over and somehow the sectional tournaments begin just six weeks from tomorrow. The boys’ teams start a little bit later and have completed roughly one-fourth of their seasons...

DePauw University’s Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the American Philosophical Association (APA) to kickstart the Inclusive Summer High School Institute in Philosophy (ISHIP). The Putnam County Public Library will increase its weekly hours of operation starting in 2017.
