Seventh-ranked DePauw scored 18 straight points in the first quarter and the Tigers cruised to a 75-43 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over visiting Denison on Wednesday in women’s college basketball. The Tigers improved to 22-1 overall and 14-0 in the NCAC with their 18th straight win, while Denison dropped to 10-13 overall and 5-9 in the conference. DePauw also clinched at least a share of its sixth NCAC title in seven years in the conference...

Cloverdale senior Jalen Moore has been named a finalist for the Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year Award in Indiana. Moore is the state's leading scorer at 38.3 points per game, with a high game of 53 points against Greencastle earlier this year...

The Greencastle Tiger Cubs sure like playing in McAnally Center. They beat the South Putnam Eagles 55-40 in the second semifinal game of the Putnam County Classic on Thursday night. Greencastle improved to 13-5 with a 9-1 record on its home court. The Cubs used the dribble drive to perfection and worked their offense to shoot 9-of-17 from three-point land and overall a 53 percent shooting night from the field. ...

North Putnam coach Collin McCartt would have easily signed a contract before Thursday night’s game if such a pact included the state’s leading scorer finishing 14 points under his average and him hitting just 6 of 23 shots from the field. Cloverdale’s Jalen Moore missed his first eight shots and had his lowest scoring output of the season with 24 points, but it was still enough for the Clovers to beat North Putnam 51-43 and advance to tonight’s county championship game...

Last year was new territory for South Putnam’s girls’ basketball team. The Eagles won their first sectional title in more than a decade, and admittedly had a subpar performance against Eastern Hancock in the Speedway Regional. They had a lot of turnovers and shot poorly, still losing only 54-42...

CLOVERDALE -- Cloverdale High School students enrolled in the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program have placed in the top third of their events at the recent regional Career Development Conference. Cloverdale as a whole took first in chapter brochure, while Jordan Harrell took second in career presentation. The second and third places in creative solutions were captured by Denise Janke and Jalen Johnson, respectively. And Calvin Taylor claimed third in writing skills...

Two Greencastle wrestlers are just 12 minutes away from earning a berth at the IHSAA state finals in Indianapolis next weekend. Junior Trace Thomas and freshman Logan Carrington will both be competing in the Evansville Reitz Semistate on Saturday at the Ford Center, needing two victories to secure a spot in the final four and qualify for the state meet...

Richard "Rick" George Williams, 68, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, losing his battle with cancer. Rick was born Aug. 29, 1949 in Portland Mills, the son of Herman E. and Dorothy A. (Gorham) Williams. In September 1984 he met Rhoda T. (Nixon) Williams at a Portland Mills picnic, and they were married on Sept. 28, 1985...

Local real estate broker, Eric Wolfe, was recently named to the Indy Real Producers Magazine Top 200 brokers in central Indiana, as determined by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR). Wolfe was the only Putnam County broker named to the top 200 brokers for his 2017 real estate sales. He closed 101 transactions and nearly $15 million in sales volume, and holds the No. 1 broker spot in both the greater Putnam County and Greencastle markets...

FILLMORE -- Clerk-Treasurer Tom Gilson announced to the Fillmore Town Council that it would need to consider utlity rates and authorize a rate study this year. In December, according to Ordinance 2014-7, rates increased by $0.96 for water and $1.42 for sewer, bringing the minimum rate of any bill in Fillmore to $32.95 for water and $48.86 for sewer. ...
