When a football team is balanced, confident and on a roll, it is a tough matchup for opponents. The Class 1A No. 7 (coaches) or No. 9 (AP) ranked South Putnam Eagles came into Friday night for their home opener with all those things going for them and unfortunately for county rival North Putnam the Eagles continued their soaring ways with a 56-27 win over the Cougars in a Small School Western Indiana Conference game.

On its own, public speaking is certainly tough enough. Easily considered the No. 1 phobia for most of mankind. But public speaking at an event in which the great orator Martin Luther King is the central figure? Oh, baby, no thank you very much. Yet that’s the position a number of Greencastle folks found themselves in Saturday afternoon...

Martin Luther King Jr. would have loved what transpired Saturday afternoon in downtown Greencastle. As some 60 people assembled for a 45-minute program commemorating his Sept. 5, 1960 visit to Greencastle and King’s address to Methodist leaders at Gobin Church, he’d have been happy to know that the event didn’t just dwell on his appearance and the addition of a long-overdue plaque honoring its 60th anniversary to the Heritage Wall on the east side of the building at Vine and Washington streets...

WEST TERRE HAUTE -- Greencastle and West Vigo hooked up in a low-scoring, defensive battle on Friday night in Western Indiana Conference football action. West Vigo scored its only touchdown in the first quarter, and made those points stand up in a 7-6 win over Greencastle...

PUTNAMVILLE — Not only have COVID-19 cases slowed at Putnamville Correctional Facility, most of the infected prisoners have now recovered. As of Friday, the prison still stood at 177 offenders who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 since March. However, the really good news came in that 143 prisoners were shown to have recovered, an increase of 94 from one day earlier...
