At the beginning of the 2022-23 girls’ basketball season, there was some buzz around Greencastle and a transfer who would be playing for the team. By the end of the season, which came on the floor at Shelbyville in the semistate round, the buzz that surrounded Gloria Brewer in October had turned into a record-breaking role in the Tiger Cub squad, setting three single-season records after tying down the school’s single-game scoring mark just four games into the season...

Less than a year into her time with Greencastle Community Schools, Becky McPherson finds her career on the rise. On Monday, the Greencastle Middle School principal was named the new assistant superintendent in the corporation, effective July 1. At the recommendation of Supt. Jeff Gibboney, the board — which currently has just four members — gave McPherson’s transfer to the Central Office position unanimous approval, along with 17 other personnel items. The Greencastle Arts Council, in collaboration with the Putnam County Museum, is now accepting submissions to the fourth-annual Putnam County Adult Visual Arts Exhibition. This year’s exhibit will open to the public on July 8 and run through Sept. 22 at the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle. Deadline for submission of artwork is May 14...

Ronald Lynn Vermillion, 81, of Cloverdale, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Ronald was born in Greencastle on August 19, 1941, the son of Wendell Shaw Vermillion and Nettie Oval (Duncan) Pettit. He worked as a cement mason for 30 years, and also worked as a custodian with Indiana State Police Post 53 in Putnamville for 24 years until his retirement in 2021...

Douglas Lee Ash, 63, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at his residence. Doug was born in Greencastle on Sept. 9, 1959, the son of Joseph Harold and Loretta (Chiles) Ash. Mr. Ash was a master of all trades, and could accomplish anything he put his mind to. He will be missed by everyone who knew him...
