Greencastle Police Dept.

Two accidents were investigated recently by the Putnam County Sheriff's Dept.

* On Saturday at North College and East Franklin streets, two vehicles collided.

Reserve Officer Nicholas Eastham reported that Dwayne Kaiser, 51, Indianapolis, was driving a 1999 Ford pickup pulling a trailer, registered to William Goins, Cloverdale when he drove westbound into the intersection.

A 1992 Honda Accord, driven by Matthew Hawthorne, 17, Greencastle, was unable to avoid colliding with the truck.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 8:20 a.m. Monday, two vehicles collided at Indiana and Washington streets.

Officer Albert Epple reported that James Clearwaters, 83, Fillmore, was parked in angle parking on the east side of Indiana Street and began to back out without seeing a southbound 1999 GMC pickup that was stopped at the stoplight.

Gerald Ensor Jr., 41, Greencastle, said he was stopped at the traffic light at Washington Street when the collision occurred.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Several traffic tickets were also issued recently.

Officer Chris Helmer issued the following tickets.:

* At 5:05 p.m. Thursday, Cheryl Long, 47, Fishers, was cited for speeding 55 mph in a 40 mph zone on Veterans Memorial Highway.

* At 12:10 p.m. Friday, Lloyd Patterson, 55, Brownsburg, was cited for expired license plate on Washington Street.

* At 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Duane Kazee, 39, Rockville, was ticketed for expired license plate on Fawnview Drive.

Officer Travis DeLaGrange issued the following tickets:

* At 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Michael Pruitt, 30, Martinsville, was cited for speeding 51 mph in a 30 mph zone on Bloomington Street.

* At 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Tony Starr, 48, Reelsville, was ticketed for false and fictitious registration on Ind. 240 at Percy Julian Drive.

* At 9 40 p.m. Sunday, Samuel Weekly, 27, Greencastle, was cited for driving while suspended on Bloomington Street.

* At 1:10 a.m. Monday, Rebecca Nispel, 18, Greencastle, was ticketed for speeding 50 mph in a 30 mph zone on Bloomington Street.

Officer Eric Vaughan issued the following ticket:

* At 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Murat Vildiz, 34, Champaign, Ill., was ticketed for improper passing on the left on Bloomington Street.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent runs.

On Monday:

* At 10:10 a.m., firefighters responded to a sprinkler problem at 1601 Hospital Drive (The Waters). They returned to the station at 10:37 a.m.

* At 1:05 p.m., firefighters were called for a smoke detector problem at 22 Beveridge St. They returned to the station at 1:16 p.m.

* At 3:51 p.m., firefighters responded to a malfunctioning alarm at 1105 N. Jackson (Putnam County Museum). They returned to the station at 4:07 p.m.

* At 4:23 p.m., firefighters were called back to 1601 Hospital Drive (The Waters) but were disregarded by the alarm company. They were back in service at 4:25 p.m.

Putnam County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Randall Lee Smith, 49, Greencastle, was booked in at 9:42 a.m. Monday on petitions to revoke probation. He was arrested by Civil Deputy Mike O'Hair.

* Clyde Wayne Tate, 47, Greencastle, was booked in at 6:11 p.m. Monday for receiving stolen property. He was arrested by Deputy Doug Nally.

Sheriff's Dept.

Four people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 2:35 p.m. Monday on U.S. 40 at CR 25 East.

Deputy Nally reported that Morgan T. Wiggs, 17, 5904 S. CR 25 East, Cloverdale, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S10 when she stopped in the median of the highway to cross to her residence. Wiggs said she had been having headaches all day and at the time of the crash, she may have blacked out.

David L. Williams, 25, Terre Haute, said he was driving a westbound 2003 Mercury Marquis and saw the truck start to inch out slowly into the highway. He said as he approached, the truck entered his path and he braked, but was unable to miss the truck.

The impact sent both vehicles off the road, with the pickup truck coming to rest in some trees.

Wiggs complained of head pain after the crash.

Williams had an arm injury. His passenger, Catherine Williams, 30, Terre Haute, complained of back pain, while passenger Francis Robison, 89, Brazil, complained of chest pain.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

* At 8 a.m. Friday, a truck slid off CR 100 East near CR 25 South.

Lt. Danny Wallace reported that Jeremy L. Lawless, 21, 1140 E. CR 425 North, Greencastle, was diving south in a 1986 GMC pickup when he met another vehicle coming across a bridge. He braked and his truck slid off the road into a pole.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 9:40 a.m. Saturday, a car hit a deer on CR 100 North near CR 375 West.

Lt. Wallace reported that Cindy J. Mattox, 46, 7223 W. CR 300 North, Greencastle, was driving east in a 2006 Toyota Avalon when a deer ran into the side of her vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.
