Monday, July 2, 2007

A change in newsroom staff has occurred at the BannerGraphic, publisher Randy List announced Monday.

Adam Coates has been promoted from staff writer to assistant editor. Coates will be filling the seat vacated by Jason Moon, who was recently appointed editor at The Brazil Times, sister newspaper of the BannerGraphic.

Coates joined the BannerGraphic staff in September 2003 as a staff writer. He had previously worked as a staff writer for the Hendricks County Flier in Avon.

Coates earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Indiana University-Indianapolis in May 2001.

He covered the Putnam County Sheriff's Department when officers traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. His interests revolve around outdoor activities, such as hiking, swimming, boating and riding ATVs, weather watching, tractor collecting, and traveling. He also has an extensive collection of lighthouses and loves the Great Lakes.

Coates' great-great grandfather William B. Vestal was sheriff of Putnam County around 1900.

To reach Coates with a news tip, call the BannerGraphic at 653-5151, ext. 21, or send an e-mail to adamcoates@bannergraphic.com.
