James E. Lawson, 84, Sullivan and formerly of Rosedale, died Sunday at his residence.

Born in Vigo County, he was the son of Frank and Mary (Clark) Lawson.

He was a retired press operator for IBM Corp. at Greencastle.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he received the American Theater Ribbon Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbons, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Victory Medal. He was a 50-year member of Rosedale Masonic Lodge 259, a 50-year member of Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and a member of the American Legion Tony Kashon Post in Rosedale.

He married Joilet E. "Joy" Clark on July 17, 1946. She died Oct. 29, 2001.

He married Lily (Sutherland) Moreland on Nov. 23, 2002. She survives.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Ron Moreland and wife Jane, Sullivan, and Joe Moreland and wife Monya, Carlisle; stepdaughter Donna Cornetto and husband Eddie, Washington, Pa.; brother Bob Lawson, East Glen; nine stepgrandchildren and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by stepdaughter Connie Horton in July 2005.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, Rosedale. Burial with military honors will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, and prior to services Thursday.
