Howard C. Dean Jr., 82, Greencastle, died Monday morning at Hickory Creek at Sunset Nursing Home.

Born in Greencastle, he was the son of Howard C. and Grace Marie (O'Hair) Dean.

He had worked at Lone Star Industries for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He attended Greencastle High School and was a member of Greencastle Lions Club.

He married Mary Elizabeth Stewart on Jul 28, 1945. She died Aug. 25, 1982.

Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy Ann Wells and husband David, Peggy Sue McFarland, and Patricia Lynn Phelps and husband Mike, all of Greencastle; two sons, Leslie Howard Dean and wife Alesia, Roachdale, and James Edward Dean and wife Kimberly, Greencastle; and sister Olive May "Peggy" Smaltz, Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, stepmother Ruth Dean, son William Ray Dean, two sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with burial in Blakesburg Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
