Trula I. Baxter, 81, Cloverdale, died Tuesday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Saltville, Va., she was the daughter of Samual Thomas and Mary (Cardwell) Allison.

A homemaker and caregiver, she was a member of Deer Creek Primitive Baptist and American Legion Auxiliary of Hurst Collins Post 281 at Cloverdale.

She married James Edward Baxter on June 30, 1945. He died July 31, 1984.

Surviving are two daughters, Shelby Boswell and husband Larry, Tucson, Ariz., and Linda J. Baxter, Cloverdale; son Kenneth E. Baxter, Cloverdale; sister Sarah Shoemaker, Greenville, N.C.; brother Arthur Allison and wife Edna, York, Pa.; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepmother Emma Allison, four brothers and a grandson.

Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in Cloverdale Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday.
