Ruth Joanne Lyon Fletcher, 80, formerly of Greencastle, died Friday at the Manor Care Summer Trace in Carmel.

Born in South Bend, she was the daughter of Adolph R. and Ruth L. (Smith) Hayes.

She was a 1943 graduate of South Shore High School in Chicago and a 1947 graduate of DePauw University with a degree in Economics. She also earned a master's degree in education from DePauw in 1966.

She married Keith H. Lyon in 1948. He preceded her in death. She later married Robert I. Fletcher, who also preceded her in death.

She was a third-grade teacher at Ridpath Elementary School, Greencastle, from 1966-1983 and was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Greencastle, Alpha Omega Pi Sorority, Tri Kappa Sorority, Daughter's of the American Revolution, Teacups in Greencastle, Windy Hill Country Club, and the Indiana State Teacher's Association.

Survivors include a son, Robert H. Lyon and wife Donna, Chicago; daughters Anna (Lyon) Baker and husband Dr. Martin Baker, Zionsville, and Patricia (Lyon) Kennedy, Phoenix; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Keith H. Lyon and Robert I. Fletcher, and a sister.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
