Julia A. "Judy" Hudkins, 75, Sebastian, Fla., died Saturday at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, Fla., after a brief illness.

Born in Fulton County, Ind., she moved to Sebastian in 1989 from Plainfield. She was the daughter of Rex Carey Sr. and Pauline Dunton.

A 1971 graduate of Indiana University, with a degree in sociology and criminology, she was a behavioral clinician at the Indiana Dept. of Correction for 16 years. She also received her masters degree in education psychology in 1979.

She was a member of St. Paul American Lutheran Church, Michigan City, and Peace Lutheran Church, Greencastle. She was also a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary, a volunteer at St. Vincents de Paul.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Donald Hudkins, Sebastian, Fla.; son Michael L. Hudkins, Orlando, Fla.; daughter Renee M. Gunter, Richmond, Va.; mother Pauline Dunton, Benton Harbor, Mich.; brothers Robert Clemans, Edwardsburg, Mich., Rodney Carey, and Forrest Glee Vining, both of Warsaw, and James Carey, Fort Wayne; sisters Rosetta Stout, Warsaw, Susan Fairbanks, Watervliet, Mich., Glenda Holbrook and Linda Creamer, both of Warsaw, Virginia Schuh, Sarasota, Fla., Patricia Lester, Coloma, Mich., and Sandra Vermillyers, Benton Harbor, Mich.; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, brothers Rex Carey Jr., and Cephus Dunton; and sisters Helen O'Dell and Katherine Carey.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, Sebastian, Fla., with Rev. Grant Kilps officiating. Burial will follow in Sebastian Cemetery, Sebastian, Fla.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
