Robert A. "Bob" Hoffman Jr., 81, Connersville, formerly of Greencastle, died Friday at Caroleton Manor.

Born in Putnam County, he was the son of Robert Alfred Sr. and Beulah (Griggs) Hoffman.

A 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School, he was a member of the basketball team.

He received a degree in agriculture from Purdue University.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the church board. He was Assistant County Agent in Marion County, giving the agricultural report on the Channel 8 Noon News in Indianapolis in 1952.

He managed the Bentonville Grain Company and was Farm Representative-Vice President Loan Officer at Fayette Bank. He later owned and operated Hoffman's Cleaners and Laundromat.

He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of directors at the Connersville Country Club and also served on the Fair Board and Extension Office Board.

On June 19, 1949, he married Carol Shirley in Greencastle.

Survivors include his wife, daughter Julia "Julie" Lynn Hoffman, Connersville; two sons Robert Brent Hoffman and wife Christine, Dublin, Ind., and Craig Hoffman and wife Angie, Connersville; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Eileen Berberich, Mountain Home, Ark.

Services will take place at Urban Winkler Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Monday, with the Rev. Bill Helms officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
