Fair queen hopefuls can enter 2006 contest

Applications are now being accepted for the 2006 Putnam County Fair Queen Contest.

The deadline for entries is May 31. Applications should include the contestant's name, address, phone number, current age and date of birth, high school and grade completed, college and year, years of 4-H completed, 4-H clubs and project, and organizations and honors.

Applications should be sent to Renee Marsteller, 5147 W. CR 525 South, Greencastle, 46135, or to Putnam County Juvenile Probation, third floor courthouse, Greencastle, 46135.

The queen contest is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15 in the community building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Admission is $2 per person.

The rules and responsibilities for the queen contestants are as follows:

-- Each contestant must be at least age 16 and can not have had her 21st birthday by Aug. 20, 2006, the first day of the state fair queen contest.

-- Contestants must be unmarried and must never have been married.

-- A contestant must be a Putnam County resident, and represent Putnam County in the state fair pageant. The only exception is a contestant who residents in an adjoining county, but is a 4-H member in Putnam County.

-- Each contestant must be an active member of at least one worthwhile organization in her community, such as church group, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and must have completed at least five years in 4-H.

-- Contestant cannot have a child or be knowingly pregnant at the time of the county fair queen pageant or the state fair queen contest.

-- Contestants cannot have any visible tattoos or piercings other than the ears during the competition or while representing the Putnam County Fair.

-- The evening of July 15, the contest includes each contestant appearing in two categories -- professional wear and formal wear.

-- Each contestant must attend and participate in the personal interview portion of the contest.

-- Contestants must participate in pre-contest training sessions at the Putnam County Community Building beginning in June through and including July 2006. First practice will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. Practices are mandatory.

-- The fair queen will be selected from all contestants on the basis of beauty, poise and personality which will be determined in both the preliminary judging and the evening of the public contest in July 2006. Miss Congeniality will be selected by the contestants.

-- Meetings are closed to contestants and committee members.

-- The winner must represent Putnam County in the contest of Miss Indiana State Fair or forfeit her title and prizes to the first runner-up.

The 2006 Putnam County Fair Queen committee members are Renee Marsteller, Beth Flint, Natalie Pritchard, Jenney Taylor, Raymond McCloud, Jodi Parmley, Dee Bumgardner, Jennifer Porter, Kelly Hilburn and Lindsay Harwood.
