Principal Boyd announces resignation at Cloverdale

Thursday, June 1, 2006

After three years with the Cloverdale Community School Corp., high school principal Gary Boyd decided it was time to go home.

Boyd recently announced his resignation from his post at the high school, effective June 6.

He will become the principal at Springs Valley Junior/Senior High School in French Lick in the fall.

"It wasn't something that I was out actively seeking," Boyd told the BannerGraphic Wednesday. "But it's probably best for me and my family to be close to home. And I like new challenges."

Boyd and his wife grew up in Shoals, which is relatively close to French Lick. He currently lives in Bedford.

Boyd has 33 years teaching, including 15 in administration. He began his administration career as an athletic director at North Knox and was at Edgewood and Frontier before coming to Cloverdale.

"I have had a good experience here," Boyd said of his tenure at CCSC. "We've made a lot of changes and I think improvements at the high school."

CCSC Supt. Carrie Milner said the corporation will miss Boyd.

"We wish him good luck," Milner said. "But Springs Valley is a little closer to his family."

Milner said the school board will begin actively seeking a replacement for Boyd soon, perhaps within the next 30 days.

"We will discuss it at our next meeting and take it forward," she said. "There are always challenges when you face a change in administration."
