A buzzard is to blame for a vehicle accident that injured two people on U.S. 231 at 10:02 a.m. Sunday.

Lt. Danny Wallace told the BannerGraphic that Diana Spears, 19, Frankfort, was driving a 1995 Geo Prism southbound on U.S. 231 North, when she swerved to miss a buzzard in the road. "She rolled the vehicle several times before striking the light pole on the north side of the road," he said.

Richard Cope, Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department's Assistant Chief, said Spears was partially ejected from the car, while the passenger, Kayla R. Moore, Frankfort, had to be extricated from the car.

Spears was transported to Methodist Hospital via LifeLine with injuries to her hip and leg. Moore was transported to Putnam County Hospital via PMH with an injury to her right knee.

Assisting Bainbridge Fire and Wallace were Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer, Bainbridge Town Marshal Rodney Fenwick and Roachdale Town Marshal Heath Kerns.
