Board formed to reach funding goal

Friday, August 4, 2006

The memory of Bob Allen's life as a resident and businessman helped initiate the Roachdale Community Garden project.

The development of this garden has been facilitated by community citizens in an effort to create beautiful landscaped garden behind the Roachdale library on Meridian Street.

A Roachdale Community Garden Advisory Board has been formed to cultivate funding and donors for the development and maintenance of the garden.

Even though the project has received support from the Putnam County Community Foundation through charitable contributions, community support is still needed.

In order for the garden to become a reality, a monetary goal of $21,000 needs to be reached.

There are several ways for those who wish to make a contribution. Citizens can make an individual, family, or corporate donation; purchase an 'engraved' brick to honor or in memory of a current or past Roachdale citizen, friend, relative, or neighbor; donate money specifically for a tree, bench, or other large item planned for the garden; create a fundraiser with the proceeds going to the project; or donate time and labor when the planting and development of the garden begins.

Citizens can also make an unrestricted gift to be used where the need is greatest or make an restricted gift that will support an area of particular interest.

Pledging a gift to be payable over a number of years is also acceptable.

All checks must be made payable to the Roachdale Community Garden or to the Putnam County Community Foundation for the Roachdale Community Garden.

All sizes of donation are welcome. Engraved bricks are being sold at Allen's TV and Roachdale Hardware for $50 a brick with all proceeds going to the project.

The organization heading the project welcomes all inquires and will gladly work with citizens and their attorneys, accountants, or financial advisors to meet charitable goals.

Donations can be mailed to Roachdale Community Garden Project care of Putnam County Community Foundation, 2 S. Jackson St. Greencastle or to Roachdale Community Garden at P.O. Box 36, Roachdale.
