County sets up Comprehensive Planning Process meeting

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

Putnam County will kick off its Comprehensive Planning Process at 6 p.m. Aug. 31, at Greencastle Middle School.

All Putnam County citizens are invited to attend this informational public meeting to learn how they can participate in the planning process for future growth and development.

The Public meeting will end at approximately 7:30 p.m. with a Steering Committee meeting to follow from 7:30-9 p.m.

The Steering Committee will also be open to the public.

The county has retained the services of American Consulting, Inc., a planning, engineering and design firm in Indianapolis, to assist in an effort by the county to recreate a county-wide comprehensive plan.

The plan will provide stategic long-term vision and basic goals, objectives, policies, and recommendations to help guide the county's future growth and development in areas of land use, transportation, economic development, parks and open space, historical and cultural resources, housing, community facilities, agricultural and natural resources, utilities, and intergovernmental cooperation.

The meeting will be the first opportunity for citizens to learn how to get involved in the planning process and help shape the plan's outcome.

Explanations of the county's reasoning behind updating the comprehensive plan, as well as becoming educated on planning in general, and more specifically, on the planning process for the project, will be offered at the meeting.

Information will be distributed informing those at the meeting of opportunities to become actively involved in the process.

In addition, those in attendance will have the opportunity to partake in a question and answer session with city officials, the project steering committee and the consultants.
