County players rule WCC teams
The votes are in.
Several athletes from the four Putnam County schools made the All-West Central Conference team for their respective sports this year.
In basketball, eight boys and six girls made the all-conference teams.
Cloverdale tied with Cascade this year for the WCC boys' basketball championshipe with a 5-1 record in the conference and will be represented by Chase Haltom and Kyle McCammon on the all-conference team this year. Greencastle is represented by Cal Gard and Brennan Burks this year while Jake Mullis and Riley McGaughey of North Putnam made the team. Matt Hicks and Drew Christy are the two Eagles on the team, representing South Putnam.
On the girls team this year will be Hannah Monnett from Cloverdale followed by Laura Blaydes from North Putnam. Kyrian Marshall and Stefanie Masten are the two Tiger Cubs on the team this year, while Jessica Canary and Meghan Canary from South Putnam round out the 2005-06 All-WCC girls' basketball team.
Unlike the selection of the basketball teams where the coaches vote for the players, the selection of the all-conference swim teams and wrestling team are solely decided on which individual wins the event.
The boys' All-WCC swim team this year is made up of nothing but Tiger Sharks as Greencastle swept the WCC meet this year. They include Luke Crimmins, Dustin Wood, Gus Lidaka, Mischa Serlin, Mark Jedle, Jonathan Barber, Andrew Bretscher, Patrick Rud, and William Dory.
The Tiger Sharks almost did the same in the girl's conference meet.
Two other girls from the county made the All-WCC swim team in Randi Alles from North Putnam and Shelby Johnston from South Putnam. Alles won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle while Johnston won the diving event. The rest of the team consisted of Tiger Sharks in Kendi Thomas, Jeanette Jones, Jamie Grivas, Alys Moore, Kelsey Murtagh, Terry Morgan, Ashley Allred, Erika Collins.
The wrestling championship was something special for one team this year, as South Putnam won the WCC title for the first time in school history. There are also 10 wrestlers that will be representing the county on the 2005-06 team wrestling team this year.
Zach Waycott from Cloverdale is the 103-pound wrestler while Kurt Cantonwine from Greencastle occupied the 125-pound slot. A.J. Brewer of North Putnam is the representative for the 140-pound division and Chris Pingleton is the 145-pound wrestler for the 2005-06 squad. John Parker from South Putnam filled the 152-pound spot this year while Robert Bittles of Greencastle took home the 160-pound championship for his place on the team. Josh Sanders joined his teammate Parker from South Putnam by making the team in the 171-pound division. Alex Gardiner of Cloverdale won the 189-pound division, earning his spot on the team while Thomas Crafton of South Putnam made the team in the 215-pound class. The final wrestler that made the team was Emmett Boruff of North Putnam. He won the heavyweight bout to earn his spot on the team this year.
