Clovedale, S. Putnam pik up wins in softball

The Cloverdale High School softball team picked up a big home win Tuesday against the North Putnam Cougars.

The Clovers beat the Cougars 6-1 while collecting 10 hits off the Cougars pitching.

"The Clovers played errorless and got some timely hits," CHS Coach Greg Crum said.

The Cougars had seven hits in the game with Cloverdale and Brook Miller pitched the entire game for North Putnam. She struck out four batters and gave up 10 hits.

Nicole Mowery went the distance for the Clovers, striking out six Cougars and while giving up seven hits.

The Clovers are 2-4 on the season with their next game being on Thursday when they host Edgewood at 4:30 p.m. and the Cougars will play again today at 4:30 p.m. when they host North Montgomery.

Eagles move to 7-0

MONROVIA -- The South Putnam High School softball team extended its winning streak to seven Tuesday, knocking off Monrovia 9-1 on the road.

The Eagles cranked out 15 hits, led by Jessica Canary's three doubles. Megan Robinson also had three singles while Oceaia Boetjer had two doubles. Jessica Briones and Meghan Canary also had two hits. Rounding out the hits for the Eagles were Bailey Birt, Morgan Wiggs and Samantha Stanifer with one hit each.

Briones continues to dominate from the mound for the Eagles. Posting a 7-0 record. She struck out six Bulldogs while only allowing two hits and one earned run.

"During this series with Monrovia, we've been able to put together hits and establish big run scoring innings," SPHS coach Allen Rains said. "Our pitcher (Briones) has been able to throw extremely well on back-to-back nights and her confidence and endurance have improved each game.

"Our team defense has been physically and mentally strong and our bats are putting hits together," Rains said.

The Eagles are now 7-0 on the season and 6-0 in the West Central Conference with their next game being on Thursday against Eminence at home starting at 4:30 p.m.
