Eagles defeat Monrovia; Greencastle falls to Cascade

MONROVIA -- South Putnam's varsity baseball team defeated Monrovia for the second time in a row Tuesday, defeating the Bulldogs 10-8.

The Eagles were trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the fourth inning when they exploded for six runs to take a five-run lead.

"You can see we had a lot of production from every spot in the lineup," South Putnam Coach Matt Griswold said.

Marcus McKinney, Matt Hicks, Greg Chestnut, Derek Cash and Noah Boswell all came through with singles, and Jon Davidson and Chris Nichols each contributed doubles.

Chestnut picked up the win on the mound for South Putnam.

Adam Nees pitched the seventh inning to earn the save for South Putnam.

Cascade over Greencastle

Greencastle's baseball team fell to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the West Central Conference, after losing to Cascade on Tuesday 9-1.

The Cadets scored one in the first, four in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Greencastle collected five hits with Zac Remsburg, Derrick Patterson, Chris Pingleton , Ryan Wilson and Kendall Faust each having one hit.

Patterson started out on the mound for the Tiger Cubs and retired six Cadets while giving up eight hits and six runs. Austin.

The Tiger Cubs are back in action on Friday when they travel to Tri-West for a 5 p.m. game.
