Crawfordsville -- The Greencastle varsity volleyball squad won the Crawfordsville Tourney Saturday, marking the first time the team has won the tournament in school history.

"I was thrilled," coach Trish Lowe said. "This is a big tournament for us. I like it as a sectional warmup."

The Tiger Cubs defeated Monrovia, Crawfordsville and Zionsville to win the championship.

In the first match, Greencastle defeated Monrovia in two games, 25-15, 25-11. Olivia Miller had 13 points, five aces and nine kills, while Alyssa Hile had nine assists.

The Tiger Cubs defeated host Crawfordsville in the second match, 30-28, 21-25, 25-20. Leading the way, Lauren Robertson had 13 kills, while Hile had 19 assists.

In the championship match, Greencastle knocked off Zionsville in two games, 25-11, 25-18. Miller was 16-for-16 serving with four aces, while Hile and Kelsey Hennette each had 10 assists.

As the sectional approaches Oct. 20, Lowe was happy to see her team hit full stride.

"I'm not sure it's our best," she said. "It's a young team. Hopefully, we can just get better and better. I do think we're headed in the right direction.
