SULLIVAN -- It wasn't a good weekend for the Greencastle High School boys' varsity basketball team.

On Friday, the Tiger Cubs game with Cloverdale was postponed due to the weather, then they had to travel to Sullivan where the outcome wasn't what they hoped for.

Greencastle lost its game with the Golden Arrows, 73-51, dropping the Tiger Cubs 2-3 on the season.

It was a combination of turnovers and runs that put Greencastle behind. The Tiger Cubs had 22 total turnovers fon the night with more than 15 of them coming in the first half of the game. The Golden Arrows went on several runs in the first quarter that put them up by 10, 22-12 after one quarter of play and things just got worse for Greencastle. Sullivan turned up the defense in the second quarter, shutting down the Tiger Cubs' offense completely, allowing them only six points total for the quarter, with all of them courtesy of the charity stripe.

On top of putting a hold on Greencastle's offense, the Golden Arrows were able to extend their 10-point lead to 22 to end the first half.

"We didn't handle the ball very well, and we didn't respond well to their runs," GHS Coach Troy Greenlee said.

Even though things looked bleak for the Tiger Cubs after the first half, they didn't give up.

Brennan Burks, who has been a major player for the Tiger Cubs in the early part of the season, led the Tiger Cubs' offense in the third quarter. Burks posted eight of his 26 points in the third quarter, but he was the only Tiger Cub that could constantly score.

The Golden Arrows outscored the Tiger Cubs, 20-13, in the third quarter and nearly sealed the deal.

The fourth quarter was Greencastle's best quarter of the night. The Tiger Cubs turned the table on Sullivan, outscoring them 20-13. Burks lit up the score board again and this time, he had some help.

Zac Remsburg came off the bench, hitting a big three-pointer and short jumper while a few other Tiger Cubs chipped in a few points.

"Brennan needs to be the a guy we can rely on in the post and we have to get some of the perimeter guys to help him out, and if they don't, then it will be a rough season," Greenlee said. We just didn't play well offensively and we stood around defensively and a combination like that will get your butt beat."

In junior varsity action, the Tiger Cubs won, 53-52, in double overtime.

Along with Burks' points, Greencastle received four points from Quinn Fenlon, five from Remsburg and four from Michael Richardson. Cal Gard pitched in five points while Brian Troyer chipped in five points and Zach Smiley had two.

Greencastle will be back in action on Friday when they host Rockville. The JV starts at 6:30 p.m. with the varsity following at 8 p.m.
