DePauw to host Hope in gridiron

The DePauw Tigers' football got off to a good start last week.

Now they'll try to keep a good thing going.

DePauw (1-0) will host Hope College at noon on Saturday, one week after defeating Anderson University, 25-13.

Saturday's game against the Flying Dutchmen (0-1) will also be a tiebreaker of sorts.

It will be the 37th all-time meeting in the series between the two teams, which is currently knotted at 18-18.

DePauw won last year's game on the road for its second straight win of the rivalry and third in the last four seasons.

The Tigers won the game 38-12 and totalled 529 yards, including 254 on the ground.

DePauw earned a win in its season opener, but it was no easy task.

The Tigers were trailing 13-12 early in the fourth quarter before Jeremiah Marks rushed for 88 yards in the last eight minutes of the game and scored the last two touchdowns of the game in the last four minutes to give DePauw the win.

Marks finished with 200 yards in the game, and quarterback Abe Winkle passed for 84 yards, completing eight of 19 passes.

DePauw's defense also got the job done against the Ravens, keeping them to only 97 rushing yards.

Eric Lewis had 12 tackles in the game for DePauw, including three for losses of 15 yards.

Andy Brandstatter tallied nine tackles, and Michael McNeils had four, totalling losses of 21 yards.

Hope comes into the 2006 campaign having returned 36 letterman and 16 starters from the 2005 squad.

The Flying Dutchmen finished 5-5 last season, tying for second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Last week at Central they opened up an early 13-0 lead, but Hope's hosts scored 25 unanswered points to take the win.

David Booko had 86 rushing yards and a touchdown for Hope, and quarterback Jake Manning completed 17-of-13 passes for 206 yards.

The Tigers and the Flying Dutchmen will hook up at Blackstock Stadium on Saturday at noon.
