Voris A. Etcheson, 88, Crawfordsville, formerly of Bainbridge, died Wednesday at Williamsburg Healthcare, Crawfordsville.

Born in Bainbridge, he was the son of Clarence Lee and Zella Marie (Anderson) Etcheson.

A 1937 graduate of Bainbridge High School, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from February 1942 to September 1945 as a sergeant.

He had worked at R.R. Donnelley in Crawfordsville as a proof reader, retiring in 1984, and at the Crawfordsville Library and the Greencastle Wal-Mart store. He was a member of Bainbridge Christian Church, Moose Lodge 1592, Lions Club, American Legion of Greencastle, and the Eagles Lodge in Crawfordsville.

He married Helen June Gibson on Dec. 25, 1941. She died Jan. 30, 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet Deckard and husband Bernie, Crawfordsville; brother Donald Etcheson and wife Bonnie, DeRidder, La.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Mary Leonard and brother Robert Etcheson.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Dale Baldwin and Rev. Harold Keck officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Brick Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday.
