Accidental fire fought at VBL

Wednesday, November 1, 2006

A fire that destroyed an out building in VanBibber Lake Estates Monday has been deteremined to be accidental due to electrical fault.

At 3:33 p.m. Monday, Putnam County Dispatch pulled a MABAS box alarm for a structure fire at 5054 VanBibber Lake Estates. Dispatch informed firefighters that the structure was fully involved and the fire was spreading to the structure next door.

Fire Chief Adam Roach said upon firefighters arrival to the scene, they found the out building, which had been used for social gatherings, was completely destroyed. Four buildings were involved.

He also said that the house and the porch next door had minimal fire damage.

Roach commends bystanders, who were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses.

"If it wasn't for them, there could have been a lot more damage to the house next door," Roach said.

Even though there were small vegetation fires around the outbuilding, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the primary structure.

No injuries were reported, and the property owner, John Pipes, was not home at the time of the fire.

Roach said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it was believed to be accidental.

VanBibber was assisted by Roachdale and Russellville Fire Departments, and Madison Twp. covered the station.
