DePauw women fall in final

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- On Saturday, the DePauw University women's basketball team deopped to 1-1 on the season after a 77-68 loss to Illinois Wesleyan in the Illinois Wesleyan Tipoff Tournament Championship.

The Tigers -- ranked third in the D3hoops.com poll and fifth in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll -- led most of the first half and had a six-point lead with just under three minutes to play in the first half.

But the Titans closed the first half on a 10-3 run to take a 34-33 lead.

The Tigers scored seven-straight points midway through the second half to take a four-point, 50-46 lead, with 9:33 remaining. However, Illinois Wesleyan scored the next 10 points to take the lead for good.

Liz Bondi led the Tigers with 18 points and eight rebounds while Kalei Lowes had 15 points.

Caitlin McGonigal also had 10 points while Jenna Fernandez tallied nine.

Sarah Bull paced the Titans (2-0) with 25 points while Claire Sheehan had 21.

Christina Solari came off the bench to score 15 points while grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Tigers were 24-of-64 from the field while Illinois Wesleyan shot 22-of-52.

DePauw (1-1) faces Fontbonne at home on Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m.
