North Putnam falls in three-way meet

ELLETTSVILLE -- On Saturday, the North Putnam High School boys' and girls' swimming squads traveled to Ellettsville for a three-way meet against the Mustangs and South Vermillion, coming away with two losses each.

In girls' action, Edgewood won the meet with 128 points while South Vermillion had 121. North Putnam finished with 64 points.

In boys' action, the Mustangs had 147 points to win the meet while South Vermillion was second with 93 points. North Putnam came in third with 85 points.

The NPHS girls' team managed to pick up one first-place finish Saturday as Katie Wilcox won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.64. In addition, Shelby Riichey was second in diving with a score of 116.10.

The Cougar boys managed two first-place finishes Saturday as Brian Rhoden won the diving event, scoring 192.40. Patrick Byrd also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.61.

The Cougars will hit the pool again on Dec. 14 on the road against Greencastle, beginning at 6 p.m.
