Dorothy "Deane" Welch Kumpf, 84, died Wednesday evening. She was a long time resident of Brazil, but has resisted the last three years at The Waters of Greencastle.

Born in Sebree, Ky., she was the daughter of Willie and Eunice Wiley Welch.

During her childhood, she lived in several coal-mining towns in Kentucky and graduated from Nortonville High School in 1939.

On April 21, 1941 she married Melvin Kumpf and moved to Brazil. He preceded her in death.

She had worked as a saleslady at The Fashion Dress Store in Brazil. She later worked as a fashion consultant at Wolf's in Terre Haute. She retired from P.R. Mallory in Greencastle after working there 17 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brazil for more than 50 years, and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Kumpf Houck and husband David, Greencastle; a son, Pastor Robert Kumpf and wife Carolyn of Brazil; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Brazil, with Rev. Robert Sampson officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
