CHS, SPHS wrestlers compete in Eagle Super Six

The South Putnam and Cloverdale high school wrestling teams competed in the Eagle Super Six at SPHS Friday, with Cloverdale finishing 4-1 and South finishing 2-3.

Fountain Central emerged as the tournament's champion, going undefeated on the day, 5-0.

In the first round, the Clovers knocked off Charlestown, 42-34, while South Putnam crushed Blue River Valley, 58-12.

Zach Waycott, Benjamin Sanders, Todd Rightmyer, Lee Secrest, Derek Evans, Alex Gardiner, Ben Cheatham and Dylan Stone all picked up wins for CHS.

Brandon Vaughn, Seth Green, Antonio Hernandez and Tyler Parker all earned wins for the Eagles.

SPHS also got wins from Jon Spencer, Jon Parker, Jacob Parrish, Josh Sanders and Chris Hurst.

Round two saw South Putnam suffer its first defeat of the day, a 47-27 loss to Charlestown, with Parker, Parrish, Sanders, Hunter Edwards and Hurst picking up wins.

Cloverdale also suffered a second-round defeat, falling to Fountain Central, 51-30.

Waycott, Zak Osburn, Sanders, Gardiner and Stone all earned victories.

The Clovers got back on track in round three against BRV, picking up a dominating 78-6 win.

Cloverdale lost to Blue River Valley in only one weight class, the 125-pound contest. The loss was due to forfeit.

The Eagles also picked up a third-round win, knocking off Turkey Run, 48-24.

Only Vaughn, Tyler Parker, Spencer and Andy Peyton suffered defeats at the hands of the Warriors.

South Putnam fell to 2-2 on the day with a 54-25 loss to Fountain Central.

Green earned a win for the Eagles, as did Jon Parker, Parrish and Sanders.

The Clovers easily defeated Turkey Run, coming away with a 72-6 fourth-round win, losing just one match-up in the 112-pound weight category.

Finally, the Eagles and Clovers went head-to-head in the fifth and final round of the tournament.

Cloverdale left with the win, defeating SPHS 54-20.

Brittney Hughes, Jeremy Goodlett, Waycott, Osburn, Benjamin Sanders, Nick Keefer, Rightmyer, Gardiner, Cheatham and Stone all picked up wins for CHS, while Green, Jon Parker, Parrish and Josh Sanders won for South Putnam.

The Clovers will hit the mat again next Saturday when they compete in the South Vermillion Invitational at 9 a.m. Cloverdale will be in action next Saturday as well, wrestling in the Monrovia Invitational at 8:30 a.m.
