SPHS goes 3-1 at Monrovia
MONROVIA -- South Putnam's varsity wrestling team competed in the Monrovia Invitational on Saturday, finishing the day with a 3 -1 record.
South Putnam defeated Danville 38-30, Owen Valley 50-24 and Ritter 66-12. The Eagles fell to host Monrovia, 42-36.
Brandon Vaughn and Seth Green had a 4-0 records at 103 and 125. Tyler Parker had a record of 3-1 on the day at 130.
At the 135 weight class, Logan Kinney went 3-1 for the tournament. D.J. Adams gained a 1-3 record at the 140 class. Jeremiah Parrish was 2-2 on the day going 1-1 at 145 and 152.
Jon Parker scored a record of 2-0 at 145 and 1-0 at the 152. Jacob Parrish tallied a record of 3-1 on the day in the 160 class. Josh Sanders was 4-0 at 171 and Hunter Edwards went 3-1 in the 189 weight class.
At 215, Chris Hurst went 3-1 and Andy Peyton was 1-3 at the heavyweight class.
In JV action, Antonio Hernandez went 1-0 at 130 and John Spencer went 1-0 at 135.
South Putnam will host Plainfield this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

GHS competes at Avon
The Greencastle varsity wrestling team competed in the Avon Super 6 over the weekend and came away with a 1-4 record.
Greencastle's lone victory came against Fisher, 42-20. The Tiger Cubs were defeated on the day by Ben Davis, 57-16, Avon, 9-61, Lawrence North, 6-64, and Harrison, 63-15.
On the day, Nate Kelly finished with a 1-4 record in the 103 weight class. Nolan Lewis was 3-2 at 112.
At the 119 weight class, Ryan Gillespie was 0-5 in matches and Tommy Downing was 1-4 at 125. Kyle Johnson was 1-3 at the 130 weight class and Kyle Sheldon went 0-5 on the day at 135.
Logan Campbell logged a record of 3-2 at 140, while Ty Buchanan was 1-4 at the 145 weight class. Jacob Wright, at the 154 weight class, had a record of 3-2.
Chris Pingleton was Greencastle's only wrestler to finish the day with zero losses as he notched a 5-0 record.
At 215, Michael Rumley had a 3-2 record for the tournament. Kyle Buchanan and Andy Harrison went a combined 0-8 in the 189 and heavyweight classes.
In JV action, Josh Guffey and Blake Vermillion each had a record of 1-2 in the 152 and the 189 weight classes. Each finished in fourth place. At 152, Jesse Ford had a record of 0-2.
Greencastle will next be in face Danville on the road tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Cloverdale third at tournament
CAYUGA -- The Cloverdale varsity wrestling team finished third at the South Vermillion 8-Way tournament during the weekend, at Clinton.
Brittney Hughes was 2-2 for the Clovers at 103. In the 112 weight class, Kyle Chambers went 1-3 on the day.
Zach Waycott was 3-1 on the day at 119. Zak Osburn finished the tournament with a 3-1 record at 130. Benjamin Sanders was a perfect 3-0 on the day in the 135 weight class.
At 140, Nick Keefer went 2-2 while Lee Secrest went 2-1 at 152. Derick Evans was 2-1 on the day at 160 and Scott Mayhew was 2-2 at 171.
Cloverdale dominated the upper weight divisions going 9-0.
Alex Gardiner was 3-0 at 189, Ben Cheatham was 3-0 at 215 and Dylan Stone was 3-0 in the heavyweight class.
Cloverdale will next host the WCC championship Saturday at 9 a.m.
