Concerns with flooded yards and basements floated to the ears of the Roachdale Town Council Tuesday night.

Residents who live in the alleyway between Main and East streets informed the council during the meeting about their concerns with the flooding from the storm drains in the alley.

Council President Bill Long said that the town has to replace a section of the the storm drain system to fix the flooding issue.

‚*úWe don‚*Ã~t know where, but we know we have a bad section,‚*ù Long said.

One of the residents told the council that he believed the bad section was in his yard. One year, the homeowner had a geyser in his yard and the next he had a blister. From his yard, the water runs down into his neighbors‚*Ã~ yards and basements.

The town has attempted in the past to fix the problem by laying down gravel, but the water just washes it away.

The residents asked the council when they could expect the town to start working on the project. Board member Jack Jones said it would have to wait until after the rain that has been predicted for the weekend.

Long looked at the audience of residents and said, ‚*úOk, I know what you wanting. When?‚*ù

Supt. Teddy Knowling informed the council and the residents that he would like to fix the problem as soon as possible. But soon as possible depends upon the weather and other projects coming up.

‚*úI would be safe to say the next 60 to 90 days, weather permitting,‚*ù Knowling said about getting the problem fixed.

In other business, the council:

-- Tabled the ordinance changes for the school zone speed limit signs.

-- Learned from Bill Hubble, from the Roachdale Wastewater Plant, about his truck problem. Hubble informed the council that he not sure what the problem with the truck is, but the truck was in the repair shop.

-- Tabled the purchasing a truck for Knowling.

The council meets regularly every second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the town hall. The next town council meeting is set for Tuesday, Feb. 13.
