Wrestlers set for regional

The 11 Putnam County wrestlers that advanced out of the Avon Sectional learned Monday who they would be facing in the first round of the Mooresville Regional.

The regional is set for Saturday and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Cloverdale will send five grapplers to regional action while Greencastle will be represented by four. In addition, South Putnam advanced three wrestlers while North Putnam will bring two Saturday.

At the Avon Sectional Saturday, Greencastle placed fourth while Cloverdale was seventh. South Putnam was ninth and North Putnam finished 10th.

Cloverdale will be represented at 103 pounds by Brittney Hughes. The sophomore is 17-10 on the season and will face Center Grove's Matt Milton (32-4) in the first round.

At 135 pounds, Cloverdale junior Benjamin Sanders (18-5) will take on Center Grove's Jerod Crump, who is 27-8 this season.

Cloverdale's Scott Mayhew also advanced in the 171-pound division. The sophomore, who is 14-16 this year, will face Mooresville's Sean McCammack (24-1) in the first round.

Cloverdale senior Ben Cheatham (15-4) will also compete in the 215-weight class and will face Whiteland's Travis Thomas, who is 29-1 this season.

In addition, Dylan Stone will compete in the heavyweight division. Stone, a junior, is 27-5 this year and will take on Whiteland's Jordan Sharp (26-7).

Ty Buchanan will represent Greencastle at 145 pounds Saturday. The senior, who is 24-13 this year, will face center Grove's Tony Zubia (28-3).

At 152 pounds, GHS sophomore Jacob Wright (16-7) will face Briar Runyan of Martinsville, who is 28-2 this year.

At 160 pounds, Greencastle's Chris Pingleton will take on Stuart Reissen of Franklin. Pingleton is the only undefeated wrestler in the weight class at 38-0 thisyear. Reissen is 25-12 on the season.

At 171 pounds, GHS senior Robert Bittles will face Tyler Kirk of Center Grove in the first round. Bittles is 30-0 on the year and is the only undefeated grappler in the class.

Both Pingleton and Bittles won their respective weight class titles at the Avon Sectional.

South Putnam will be represented by Seth Green at 125 pounds. The junior, 25-10 on the season, will face Franklin's Jae VanHorn (21-4) in the first round.

At 145 pounds, South Putnam senior Jon Parker (28-2) will take on Mooresville's Matt Perry (27-4) in the first round while at 171 pounds, Josh Sanders, a junior, will face Justin Cave of Indian Creek in the first round. Sanders is 19-8 on the year while Cave is 29-6.

At 189 pounds, North Putnam senior Jacob Stigall (20-2) will take on Brad Fox of Franklin, who is 30-6 on the season.

North Putnam will also be represented by Emmett Boruff in the heavyweight division. The senior, who has an 18-0 record this year, will take on Franklin's Mark Matthews (6-5) in the opening round.
